A hackathon is a 12-24 hour long invention marathon. Participants work in teams, or on their own, to create awesome products from scratch, learn new skills and have some fun along the way! People from all backgrounds and education are welcome, and learning the requisite skills is half the fun.
Take a look at our last Hackathon:
KCL Tech's largest hackathon is HackKing's, which until the pandemic we've ran every year since 2014. It's one of the more highly anticipated events in the student tech scene, hosting over 200 students on campus or at the buildings of our amazing sponsors. 2019s event, held at the then newly opened Bush House, was our largest to date: we sold over 500 tickets and opened our sponsorship to a wider range of companies, including Loop and Hackpartners.
We've also historically hosted HackLondon in conjunction with UCL Tech Soc, and we will be looking to bring this back at the end of the academic year. Tickets for the last event completely sold out a mere 7 minutes after release, and it ended up being one of the most successful UK-based student hackathons to date. In 2017 and 2018 we also hosted Hackathons abroad, namely HackCortona in Italy, the country's first student led hackathon, receiving national coverage.
